The Philadelphia Masters was the first Masters Track & Field club in the Eastern US when it was founded in 1970. Over the past 38 years, we have organized and held Regional, National and International meets. During the winter, spring and summer seasons we typically hold numerous developmental meets for masters’ athletes. Most meets also allow open and youth competitors. During the fall we have been known to sponsor cross-country or one of a kind multi-event running or throwing competitions.
Some of our members are quite competitive within their age groups. The club has entered age group teams in the Penn Relays and Milrose games. We have held American Masters relay records.
Do not let the competition scare you though as other members and competitors are here just for a little fitness and a lot of friendship. Not everyone can run a 3 minute half mile or a 75 second 400 meters, but we have had a few people run their age in seconds over 400 meters. Some competitors just like an occasional workout away from the elements that our indoor meets provide. Some just want a little speed work and an accurate and flat course before the spring road-racing season. Others want a tune-up before a national or regional meet.
The requirements for our developmental meets are a good attitude and some flexibility. If you want to run a 3000 meters indoors it also helps if you can count backwards from 15 to 0. If you find that math a bit of a challenge and would rather count backward from 2 to 0 we suggest either the 400, 200 or 55-meter races or a field event. Unlike road races, you need to pick you own event although if need be, for no extra charge, we will choose an event for you.
Please check our schedule to the left and join us at a couple meets and try this fun experience.
